Es MUSK Sein (2014) by Shinji Eshima
for cello
World premiere
I consider Tesla founder Elon Musk the Beethoven or Da Vinci of our time. The title is a play on Beethoven’s last string quartet, known for asking the question, "es muss sein?" or "must it be?" I am suggesting as the answer "it must be Musk!" His career has had many challenges and low points. But his altruistic personality perseveres and like Beethoven, the world is a better place because of him.
This piece was composed for my long-time colleague, classmate and dear friend Thalia Moore.
